1)第一句在汉译英时可以考虑四种处理方法。
处理办法
译文
处理为一大一小两个简单句
We were very pleased to receive your inquiry of August 25
and enclose our illustrated catalogue and the detailed
price-list as you asked.
在英语译文中处理成两个句子,各以句号作结
We are very pleased to receive your inquiry of August 25.
For your information we are sending you a copy of our
illustrated catalogue and price-list.
处理办法是把对方即you作为译文的主语(针对后一句话)
Enclosed please find our illustrated catalogue and the
detailed price-list as you asked.
把译文的主语落实为“目录”
The illustrated catalogue and the detailed price-list you
asked for have been enclosed.
2) “若你方在本月底前下订单”译为by the end of this month。 无需考虑信中出现的8月25日这个日期。
3)中文省略了主语,但英文讲究形式上的完整,所以翻译时应根据分析将主语译出;时态上,既然已经收到,那么一般而言“高兴”应当是收到时的动作,所以用过去时;“今寄上”可以用现在时,但因此时此刻正在给对方写信,为了突出一种身临其境、如见其人的意境,最好使用现在进行时;
4)从策略上看,上段刚刚夸了自己的产品“我方产品质量上乘,价格合理”,下面一句紧接着说“对定期购买不少于50打的商品,公司可给予5%的折扣”的话不是很合理。翻译时如追求交际效果、想增加一点说服力,从应付考试的角度讲,还是移到二段末尾照单译出为好。
