TOUAX GLOBAL CONTAINER SOLUTIONS
CARGOWORTHY INSPECTION STANDARD
(For Steel General Purpose Containers)

TOUAX GLOBAL CONTAINER SOLUTIONS

CARGOWORTHY INSPECTION STANDARD
(For Steel General Purpose Containers)
1 INTRODUCTION
1.1
GENERAL
 This guideline is designed for inspection of TOUAX containers
off-hired with TIN Criteria: “Cargoworthy”.

 The repair method selected should be the most economical and
suit the particular repair location.

1.2
ACCEPTABLE DAMAGE
This is defined as damage where repair is not required.
Acceptable damage includes:

Previous repairs should not be reworked unless the structural
integrity of the container is compromised or it is unsuitable for
cargo.
Steel plate floor patches are acceptable with dimensions not
exceeding 200x200mm and plate thickness not less than 4mm

1.3
NON-ACCEPTABLE DAMAGE
This is defined as damage that must in all cases be repaired and
includes items where following are present:
 The International Convention for Safe Containers, 1972, as
amended (CSC) is violated and container safety is affected.

 The Customs Convention is violated.
 There is a reduction in the internal height dimension by more
than 50mm, or internal widthlength dimension by more than
50mm.
 Cracks in welds.
 Corrosion causing a loss of structural integrity (no hammer
testing is permitted).

1.4 WEAR & TEAR
This is defined as deterioration of the general condition and cosmetic
appearance brought about by routine operational use. Wear and tear
conditions should only be estimated for repair when required to
restore a container to a cargoworthy condition. The following
should be considered when judging whether repairs are required.
 General paint deterioration = NO REPAIR.

 Deterioration of door gaskets and fittings = NO REPAIR, unless
not light tight AND watertight, or if door operationsecurement is
impaired.

 Flooring delamination resulting from routine cargo loading and
unloading cycles = NO REPAIR, unless floor strength is affected.
