施工缝是什么-什么言之

“I’m just not very good at English!” I hear it all the time and every time I do, it annoys me. No one is good at anything without a lot of practice, except for a child prodigy, but it’s so uncommon it might as well be ignored.

There’s a rule among those who study education, the 10,000 hour rule. That’s what they say is required to become a master at any subject. 10,000 hours of proper studying. I say ‘proper’ because I’m sure some are thinking that they’ve been studying English for 10 years so they should be getting close, but the problem is Chinese schools do not properly teach English in class, so all those hours you spend in class don’t count as a real study hour, sorry. But don’t start to cry yet! They aren’t wasted! They have given you a great start, you just need to build upon it.

There was a study in the USA a number of years ago, they tested a large portion of the US children and they took around 1800 of the top IQs in the country and followed them for throughout most of their life. The man who undertook the study was very excited, he thought he would get to see the cream of the crop, the best of all those involved, of US citizens.

They went through their schooling and mostly all got good grades, most of them made it to University but after their schooling was done a curious thing happened, the specially selected group of people seemed to do no better in life than anyone else. They didn’t have more millionaires, they rarely won awards, their career paths took on the usual routine and by the end of the experiment it was considered a failure. However, in failure we often learn a lot more than in success and this study taught people something very important, genius is highly over rated. Yes there are some special people who just have a natural gift, but the vast majority of successful people are just like everyone else. In the study above, those who succeeded were those who worked hard and had some luck along the way. People talk about Bill Gates or George Soros as geniuses of their industry, but if you look at their life, they weren’t actually geniuses. They were just regular guys who studied very hard and had a lot of luck.

They say that IQ works in levels. I actually forget the exact lower numbers but for us here the important number is 115. That’s what is said to be needed to make it through University. It’s also where the importance of IQ starts to disappear. If you can make it through University, you can make it anywhere, if you put the work in.

If you look at the Nobel Prize winners, there are many geniuses of course but in fact the vast majority are just smart people who spent a very large amount of time studying something. So now let’s come back to English. So many people complain that they just don’t “get” languages or that they can’t learn English well, but it’s simply not true, if you are smart enough to get through school and function well in the work place, you
are smart enough to get a language. What you need is perseverance.

People get upset when they forget some words or have trouble with their speaking and then they just give up. If Einstein had given up after he had a problem in math or science, no amount of IQ could have saved him. He kept at it, yes he had help from his high IQ but that’s not what made him successful, he worked hard, didn’t give up and succeeded. Never giving up doesn’t guarantee success but giving up will always guarantee failure.

People always ask “how do I learn English!?” but this is a very simple question that everyone knows already. Practice. I’m going to start making some videos on proper studying techniques and we can go through it all together and get everyone started on their 10,000 hours of studying, this way we can all be masters of not only our language but also our future.
