The Israeli army has seized some Palestinian controlled parts of the Gaza strip. This followed a major attack on Palestinian security position during the night. The moves are in reaction to Palestinian shelling of an Israeli town on Monday. The Palestinian group Hamas has taken responsibility for the shelling. An Israeli general says troops will stay in the recaptured area for as long as it takes to end such attacks. Last month, American writer Stephen King published a new story called "Riding The Bullet". It is about a young man who has to find a way home from college to see his sick mother. Some very scary things happen to him along the way. Critics say it is a pretty good story. But that is not why "Riding The Bullet" has become so famous.
The most interesting thin about "Riding the Bullet" is that you can only read it on a computer. The story will never be published on paper like a traditional book. Interested readers could not print a copy of it. They had to read it on their computer screens, in electronic form. So publishers call such writing "e - books".
26
The Stephen King e - books was released on the Internet computer system on March fourteenth. Nearly four hundred thousand copies were sold or requested during the first twenty - four hours. Many people had a great deal of trouble getting the e - book because of the great demand. The price was two - dollars and fifty cents. But some Internet bookstores were offering it for free. That probably increased the demand. Also, Stephen King is one of the most popular writers in America.
"Riding The Bullet" is not the first e - book ever offered. Reports say hundreds of books are for sale on the Internet in a similar way. But Mr. King's book is the most popular. Critics say that is because Stephen King has loyal readers who to read all his books as soon as they can.

Publishers say the success of the Stephen King e - boo
k shows that electronic publishing has a real future. Officials of the publishing company Simon and Schuster are talking to other writers about doing the same thing.
That could be a good thin or a bad thing. Experts say it raises many questions. Should a writer be permitted to publish an e - book without using a publishing company? What will books look like in the future? Will they become part of our computers? Publishers disagree about the answers to those questions. But Stephen King still supports the traditional printed book. He says he does not believe anything will replace it, at least not in his lifetime
