过年给孩子压岁钱是中国人过年的一个习俗，图个吉利。不过给压岁钱还很有讲究，得给新钱。
最近，专程换新钱的人在银行里排起了长队，有的公司也应员工要求在发年终奖金时准备了崭新的50和100元面值的人民币。相关报道如下

给压岁钱是中国特有的风俗，一般是长辈给晚辈，据说压岁钱可以压住邪祟，因"岁"与"祟"谐音，得到压岁钱的孩子可以平平安安度过一岁。英文中没有对应的表达，gift money 是根据"压岁钱" 意思的翻译过来的，即"将钱作为礼物送给孩子"。
