Background
The death of Robert F. Kennedy was devastating to many Americans, and made only more tragic by memories of his older brother's assassination five years before. On June 8, 1968, a funeral service was held for Kennedy at New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral, and Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts delivered the eulogy.

An almost-winner of the 1960 election, and a close winner of the 1968 election, the former Vice President Robert F. Kennedy and California Senator and Congressman had defeated the Democratic Vice President, Hubert Humphrey, and the American Independent Party candidate, George Wallace.
