It’s said that someone somewhere in the world is always eating sushi (寿司). It’s the healthy
snack of choice for people of all cultures.
There are different recipes (食谱) for making sushi. This one is really easy and fun. Try it!

Ingredients
 200 grams of raw salmon (三文鱼) in one
piece (other raw fish like tuna is fine)
 2 cups of rice
 2 cups of water
 12 cups of vinegar
 1 teaspoon of salt
 2 tablespoons of sugar
 Wasabi (
芥末
酱)
 Japanese soy sauce (酱油)
Attention
 The biggest concern people have about
sushi is its freshness. Raw fish can attract
bacteria, which can makes us ill or even
cause death. When choosing a whole
fish, the eyes should be clear. The skin
should be bright and smooth and not
breaking-up. When choosing cut fish, the
meat ought not to give off an unpleasant
smell. It should also “bounce back” at
you when you touch it. In other words, it
should look fairly hard. Don’t buy sushi
in the street. Buy from shops or
supermarkets that others can
recommend.
 Lots of wasabi also helps kill bacteria. It
also makes your head want to explode.
Instructions
 Wash your hands before you start.
 Put the sugar and salt in the vinegar (醋)
to make a mixture. Keep it in a container.
 Boil the rice in the 2 cups of water. This is
a little less water than usual to
make the rice slightly harder.
 Leave the rice to cool down for 10 minutes
after it’s boiled.
 Put the rice into a large container. Add half
of the mixture.
 Mix it all together with your hands. Keep
mixing until it sticks together. You may
need to add more of the mixture.
 Let the rice cool down.
 Wet your hands. Make balls of rice. Each
one should be about the size of a table
tennis ball.
 Take a sharp knife and cut the salmon into
thin slices. Each slice should be about 3
mm thick.
 With the rice ball in one hand, press the
cut salmon on top. Make it into
a rectangular (矩形的) shape.
 Put the sushi on a plate.
 Put a little wasabi and soy sauce in a small
dish.
 Serve the sushi to your friends. It goes
well with green tea.

69. To make sushi more delicious, you may as well ______.
A. pour some green tea into rice
B. eat it with a bit soy sauce and wasabi
C. add as much wasabi as possible to get a healthy snack
D. choose cooked fish rather than fish that are uncooked
70. What does this passage mainly discuss?
A. Making sushi is easy and fun B. popular Japanese fast food
C. Making your own sushi D. There are different recipes for making sushi
71. We can infer from the passage that ______.
A. Sushi has become a multi-billion industry

B. Making sushi is a demanding job for every one
C. Sushi is popular not only in Japan but also in China
D. You should buy sushi in shops or supermarkets only on people’s recommendation

Our program is presenting to you the world's top wildest masters of the deceiving!
Cuttlefish
Few animals use camouflage(
伪装)
as well as the cuttlefish. While
other animals mix into an environment that already resembles their
appearance, cuttlefish can transform its entire body in a matter of
seconds to copy the surroundings. From changing their colors,
patterns, and textures to altering their shapes ,these creatures are
the ocean's true masters of disguise. Its purpose? Of course to satisfy
its stomach,
Frogfish
Part frog , part fish in its appearance, the frogfish--a type of
anglerfish--is neither the fastest swimmer nor the most fierce. So
when it comes to hunting, the frogfish waits for prey(
猎物)
to come to
it. The frogfish disappears among the weeds and grass, waving the fin
as grass. Once a hungry tiny fish swims over, thinking it has found
food ,the frog fish swallows the unsuspecting victim in one big gulp.
Stoat
It's hard not to stare at a stoat dancing and hopping around in an
open field. But while it seems like pure entertainment for the
unsuspecting prey, the stoat isn't just pulling up a move to show off.
The creature is actually hypnotizing(
催眠
) its next meal so that it can
attack at the perfect moment.
Lyrebird
Songbirds are expert at borrowing the songs of other birds. But the
lyrebird takes it to a whole new level when trying to attract a potential
mate. He goes beyond just copying other birds and repeating the
sounds of different animals. More impressively , the lyrebird can also
copy sounds like chainsaws buzzing, car alarms blaring, and even
camera shutters clicking.

cuttlefish are different from other deceiving animals in that_______
means no harm while other intend to hunt by deceiving.
changes its features in appearance to match the environment.
manages to mix with the environment faster than other animals.
uses certain matter to copy the environment if necessary.

deceiving, the frogfish and the stoat are using the similar trick that______
sometimes disappear and sometimes appear to deceive.
both hunt in similar living environments.
make certain body movements before hunting.
hunt the same creature for food.
unique deceiving purpose different from those of other creatures is to______
the master of disguise.
the need of the stomach.
food for survival.
a possible mating partner.

Winter begins in the north on December 22

. People and animals have been doing what
they always do to prepare for the colder months. Squirrels (松鼠), for example, have been busy
gathering nuts from trees. Well, scientists have been busy gathering information about what the
squirrels do with the food they collect.
They examined differences between red squirrels and gray squirrels in the American state of
Indiana. The scientists wanted to know how these differences could affect the growth of black
walnut (黑胡桃) trees. The black walnut is the nut of choice for both kinds of squirrels. The black
walnut tree is also a central part of some hardwood forests.
Rob Swihart of Purdue University did the study with Jake Goheen, a former Purdue student
now at the University of New Mexico. The two researchers estimate that several times as many
walnuts grow when gathered by gray squirrels as compared to red squirrels. Gray squirrels and
red squirrels do not store nuts and seeds in the same way. Gray squirrels bury nuts one at a time
in a number of places. But they seldom remember where they buried every nut. So some nuts
remain in the ground. Conditions are right for them to develop and grow the following spring.
Red squirrels, however, store large groups of nuts above ground. Professor Swihart calls “death

traps for seeds”.
Gray squirrels are native to Indiana. But Professor Swihart says their numbers began to
decrease as more forests were cut for agriculture. Red squirrels began to spread through the
state during the past century.
The researchers say red squirrels are native to forests that stay green all year, unlike walnut
trees. They say the cleaning of forest land for agriculture has helped red squirrels invade Indiana.
Jake Goheen calls them a sign of an environmental problem more than a cause.
68. The study done by Rob Swihart and Jake Goheen is to ________.
A. find out the living conditions for squirrels
B. learn squirrels’ influence on black walnut trees
C. do something to get rid of squirrels
D. save the forests in the American state of Indiana
69. The difference between gray squirrels and red squirrels mainly lies in ________.
A. the way they gather the walnut B. the time they have winter sleep
C. the place they have winter sleep D. the place they store the walnuts
70. When Professor Swihart says “death traps for seeds”, he actually means that ________.

A. red squirrels eat more nuts than gray squirrels
B. gray squirrels and red squirrels will have severe fights
C. nuts above the ground will not develop into plants
D. seeds can be traps for other animals in the forest
A. The black walnut is equally attractive to both gray and red squirrels.
B. Gray squirrels do more harm to the forest than red squirrels.
C. Red squirrels and gray squirrels have helped the spread of walnut trees.
71. According to the passage, which of the following is true?
D. The cleaning of forest land benefits red squirrels directly.
