一个青年人的奋斗：意象杂陈

1. 2001年夏天我来到新东方的讲台，为了备课经常去听其他有经
验的老师上课。自 己的课当时上得不算太好；不是因为自己不懂，
而是自己不知道怎么教别人懂。运动员会跑步，但他们不 一定知道
如何教别人跑步。所以我去听课学习技能。那是有一天的晚上，下
了雨，从听课的水清 教室出来，路上很多地方都有水。找的士。但
是没有。一下雨，的士就消失了。很多同学骑着自行车，街 上很湿
滑，漂一些雨，偶尔有车开过，灯光把一切刺得分明。

2. 1998年， 一个人来到北京的新东方学校参加gre培训。听了很多
课，还有老俞的演讲，才知道这个世界上有些人 是这样活着，为了
自己的梦想活着。在那时，美国，于我是多么遥远的所在。学习的
时候住在北 大的我的朋友的寝室里。也才知道北大的学生上自习室
是要排队的，7点多就排一串，暑假都是如此。于 是我也日日夜夜学
习。什么是学习? 每天从早到晚就是学习。记得自己中午经常不能回
住的地 方，就到农园食堂后面买半个西瓜，跑到未名湖边上，一边
啃一边看单词，或者看着湖水发呆。永远记得 自己也曾经站在教室
外的ic电话亭里，打一些奇怪的电话，说不了几句话，但内心是温
暖而感 激的。那是唯一的心理调剂。

除了学习，哪里也没去。没去任何景点。只是去了一些书店。

回到自己的大学，已经是8月 下旬，同学们还没有回来多少。于是
就开始上自习去了。坐在教四的阶梯教室，没有多少人，但是，看< br>书，看书，看书。有人问我，在北京学gre怎么样啊？我就说，很
好，好极了，从来没有这么好 过。一股子的力气全能用在正确的地
方。找到这件事，好不容易。好不容易。教四的教室外墙都是爬山< br>虎，绿绿的。我觉得自己站立在地球上，再没有那么慌张。

3. 学 gre完全是偶然。住我楼上的化学系的一个朋友，跑到我住的
宿舍，跟一个舍友聊天，说他要到北京学 gre。说没有伙伴，问我去
不去。简直是发神经！学gre干什么？他说：去美国。--去美国干什< br>么？他说：不去美国也行，学gre可以提高英语水平啊！--是吗？他
催促说：你去不去? 去 学吧！我看着他，我完全没有主意：这看来是
上进的事，但我好像完全不知道做这个是为了什么。同时在 聊天的
还有一位沉静的大眼睛的师妹。我看到她沉静的眼神。我的情绪忽
然镇定下来：好吧，我 去学。

4. 但我没有钱。报名要650块，来回北京又需要几百，要在北京呆
5 0天，生活费也没有。怎么办？

最蠢也最自然的办法是回家，找老爸要。他说他没有。我说 我要去
读书。他深受不能读书之苦。小学时候是学校学习成绩最好的之一，
结果是地主后代，忽 然就不让读书，他的小学校长流着泪，把流着
泪的他送回家。现在，他的儿子要读书，他没有钱，他能接 受吗？
最蠢也最自然的办法是借钱。老爸说，舅舅那里也许有一点钱。于
是我跑到舅舅家去。他 还没起床。我于是坐在床边跟他说，我需要
2000块，去北京学英语，算我借你的。他说，可以，但还 是让你的
爸爸写一个借条吧。

最蠢也最自然的办法为什么能够奏效？为什么不是让我 这样一个家
庭贫困的子弟，暑假到哪个地方打工，贴补家用，而是居然放任我
花钱到外地学习？

我的爷爷是地主，年轻的时候立马万言。我的外公是民国一省政府
的幕僚，从我小 时就用鱼和甜的食物诱惑我读书。读书大概是家族
的偏执症。什么钱都可以省，读书的钱不能省。于是我 拿到了2000
块，北上读书。

5. 2000年的时候，我在自己的大学里开全 校性质的义务英语培训。
听我课的一些朋友，也去新东方上课，有一个女孩跟我说，你教的
比新 东方老师好些。我说真的吗？于是我就递了一份求职材料到北
京。4个月毫无音讯。我想，这太邪门了。 我已经翻译过一本学术英
文书，gre语文考690分，而且已经在本地教gre阅读1年多，为
什么不给我面试？是不是他们把我的材料弄丢了。于是我又递了同
一份材料给北京。几天之后，他们说 ，让我马上去面试。到了北京，
当时的国外部主任告诉我，老俞刚好卸任，这几个月招聘暂时停止
了。面试通过了，然后试讲班，然后暑假开始上课。上得不太好。
大班的经验匮乏。于是我开始猛烈的 学习新知识。

6. 没有什么比为了理想而奋斗结果在最后一刻被人为打毁 更令人痛
苦的事。我在研究生阶段还是决定跟我尊敬的邓晓芒老师学多几年，
于是就到了200 2年才开始申请。我没有意识到2001年的事件对美
国人心智的巨大影响，居然让他们可以收紧签证政 策。拿到jhu录
取的时候我正在西安的一个网吧里，高兴得走出去，买了好多统一
绿茶喝了。 全奖，专业排名第三，但是出不去。那时非典刚刚过去，
我刚狂热的写完了我的科学方法论的4-50万 的文字。但是这当头一
棒，令我情何以堪！人何以堪！我实在太难受了，我打电话给很多
人，分 担我的痛苦。我的老师说，命运是偶然的，它弄了一下，它
没什么，但你就受到巨大影响，但你不能被这 个偶然的命运玩弄。
我想，我正在被命运玩弄。我写了一封伤感的长信给在大学就一直
鼓动我们 到美国学习分析哲学的一位哈佛大学经济学博士，他当时
正在华盛顿，马上打越洋电话给我。后来我到他 的五道口的家里去
聊。他很不忍，但是他也没办法。我的一位师弟问我，这个事情对
你的影响大 吗？我说，也许要过几年再看。

i must fight, over again.7. 我犯过很多错误。人在探索自己的生活
道路时，犯错是难免的。一个像我这样没有太 多指引和信息的年轻

大的就是thomas friedman的the world is flat，那时我才知道原
来中国和印度是这样在接纳 全球化。我对接单和外贸工业有了很多
兴趣，于是到深圳找朋友去问，到惠州、番禺等地去实地考察。我
也经常有事无事跑到中环去感受气氛，想香港是如何变成了这样，
资本主义的分工体系为什么这 么伟大。我逐渐意识到了自己生理的、
心理的很多与工商业社会脱节的地方。我又开始了自我改造。后来
我也看到jacob jane的《城市与国家财富》，很感触。城市是人类
贸易的结果，是农 业的创始地。我在香港感受到了行为震撼，而从
这本书我更深入的理解了城市是怎么回事。我应该很少有 文人或左
派青年对于城市的拒斥和不安的感觉。我强烈的认同权利保护体系
下的分工网络，这是 市场经济和人类自由的核心。

9. 最好玩的事情是，2007年我接触到一些做投资的人 的文章，讲的
生活原则和生意原则，与我的价值观是如此的一致。难道生意和财
富的原则居然就 是诚实和信用，通过正确的努力在长期内而不是在
几个月内获得回报，而且要对商业文案和计划进行实证 分析？这是
些什么鬼东西？看了这些优秀的深圳投资家推荐的书，有warren
buffett，写得好，还有charlie munger。当时找不到charlie
munger自己写的书，但从amazon上查到munger推荐的书。居
然有the selfish gene, the third chimpanzee, the nurture
assumption! 这是个什么鬼投资？他推荐的这些书我多数之前都读
过。难不成我也 已经无意之中培养出了投资需要的多学科的知识模
式？the funniest thing in my life!

衷心拜服之下，好似找到新的人生榜样。于是我决心去参加他们主
持的会议。i did it, by myself.

10. 从2003年开始，我就知道有一个人叫daniel denn ett，用演化
理论来研究人的认知和文化问题的。多年以来，我看了他的所有书，
还有很多其 他的生物演化论和心理学的书，建立了一整套以演化论
来分析人的几乎一切方面的思想框架。是巨大的挑 战，但是很迷人。
你怎么能拒绝迷人的思想呢？用演化论来分析我自己的行为、心智
模式、文化 养成、社会交往等等，我感受到自己的精神力量，远远
超过曾经的最好期待。11. 跨越如此大的时空 距离，对任何人都是巨
大挑战。我的一个朋友说，人最重要的特质不是改变成了什么，而
是能够 承受多大改变。我想，改变如此之大，之剧烈，这是中国社

会从农业社会向工商业社会变身给 生活在其中的我们的一个难以避
免的结果。我的朋友也说，那些改变太多太巨大的人，也许会比较
痛苦，对快乐不会那么敏感了。我是承受过巨大改变的人，我希望
我依然很快乐。

有位同学说，“这周还看了虎平老师的400k，看了他的文字，觉得
和现在的他相距好大，大学时代的 他似乎显得有些颓废，有些黯淡，
也有些虚幻，但是前两年的懵懂并没有让认识深刻的他迷失了方向，< br>一个不经意的机会都能够让他脱胎换骨般的改变，从此改变了人生
的质量。看上去就是从量到质的 转变，可是期间的汗水和艰辛又是
文字中无法表达出来的。不敢去想，不敢去猜，不知道那是一个什么样的过程，身心的历练，不知道用什么样的方式可以排解不时的
苦闷与彷徨。” 观察清晰。其实 是生活的问题在驱动自己，汗水和艰
辛是回头叙述才有，当时只是问题本身的牵引，大得让自己只能全< br>力以赴。

还有一位同学说，“最后一天也找他签名了，非常谦虚的样子，签在
我无印的大笔记本封面上，签完名还抬头将本子递给我。也许是几
年年龄差距的区别，也许是专业的区 别，陈虎平跟陈琦感觉还是很
不一样的。虎平老师家里有精神病的病史，他本科到博士，都是学
习哲学的。但他又不是形而上学的虚无主义。他学习科学哲学，学
习经济学，学习生物学遗传学数学等硬 科学，他研究家族的病史，
用科学的方法了解了认识自己。” 这是真的，虽然下文关于我的说法
肯定是夸大了。这个同学的这些说法让我感动：“离开万泉河的时候，
我看着空荡荡的操场，说，再见 万泉河101，再见陈琦老师虎平老师，
