辨析:evident, manifest, distinct, obvious, apparent, clear,
plain
The central meaning shared by these adjectives is “readily seen, perceived, or
understood”

evident
:

1. It's evident that someone has been here.
2. We are so familiar with the fact that man ages, that people have for years assumed
that the process of losing vigor with time, of becoming more likely to die the older
we get, was something self-evident, like the cooling of a hot kettle or
the wearing-out of a pair of shoes.
3. It's evident that the plan is impracticable.

manifest
:
1. Surely because progress of a particular kind is actually taking place around us and
is becoming more and more manifest.
2.
He is a manifest liar [„laiə].

distinct
:
handwriting。

1. The earth‟s shadow on the moon was quite distinct.
2. There is a distinct improvement in your study.
3. Though they talked in a low voice, they could be heard distinctly.
4. Silk is distinct from rayon [„reiɔn] in every respect.

obvious
:
1. The rope had been cut, so it was obvious that the lamb had been stolen.
2. He is the stereotyped monster of the horror films and the adventure books, and an
obvious (though not perhaps strictly scientific) link with our ancestral past.
3. It's obvious that a man isn't strong enough to lift an elephant.

apparent

1. It later became apparent that rabbits were developing a degree of resistance to this
disease.
2. Apparently what happened was that water collected on these tar pits, and the
bigger animals like the elephants ventured out on to the apparently firm surface to

drink, and were promptly bogged in the tar.
3. It's apparent that you can't be trusted.

clear

1. The water of the lake is as clear as glass.
2. He gave a clear answer to the direct question.

plain

如:a plain face (一

2. He made it plain that he did not like me.
