animal emotions
世界肝炎日-春酒读后感
Of course they do. Just look at
them, listen to them, and, if you dare, smell the
odors they
emit when they interact with
friends and foes. Look at their faces, tails,
bodies and, most
importantly, their eyes. What
we see on the outside tells us a lot about what’s
happening inside
animals heads and hearts. As
a scientist whos studied animal emotions for more
than 30 years, I
consider myself very
fortunate. Whenever I observe or work with
animals, I get to contribute to
science and
develop social relationships at the same time, and
to me, theres no conflict between
the two.
While stories about animal emotions abound, there
are many lines of scientific support
(what I
call science sense;) about the nature of animal
emotions that are rapidly accumulating
from
behavioral and neurobiological studies (from the
emerging field called social
neuroscience).
Unlike a child that can respond
verbally to let you know how they feel , animals
cannot
talk. Through our work with animals we
have learned to look for other means of
communication to help us figure out their
emotional state and to better understand their
illness
or injury. As we studied our patients
over the past eleven years, we learned more than
just how
they communicate, but how they feel
and think.
Our fox has complex relationships
with humans that mirror our own. Red has definite
opinions
about certain people. Even at eight
years of age he still chooses who are his family,
friends and
foes. With patience and respect,
you can change your status from foe to family. A
familiar
sounding car will get his tail
wagging with the intensity increasing when a
friend is in view. As
soon as we talk to him,
his tail goes from a wag to a full propeller
motion. Upon entering his
enclosure for a
morning scratch, he falls into a submissive
position on his back, closes his eyes
and
actually smiles! If we stop at another enclosure
first or even if we stop to talk to someone
else while scratching his tummy, we are
immediately reprimanded by a verbal bark or gentle
tug.
In China, more and more people
are raising pets. It's not as difficult as before
when
keeping pets were for the
bourgeois(资产阶级). In the big cities such as
Beijing, Shanghai, and
Guangzhou, people see
pets as fashion items.
Nowadays, with the fast
pace of modern life, people are more likely to
find enjoyable ways to
relax. For example,
keeping pets is quite a popular way to release
pressure.
The number of people who have pets
has increased dramatically in the past few years
in China.
And the number of pets’ owners is
expected to become even higher in universities.
Nowadays
keeping pets has become popular among
students in our university. However, from my point
of
view; it’s ridiculous to keep pets in a
dormitory. But different people have different
opinions.
And I do not mean to criticize them.
There are several reasons for keeping pets. Some
people
have pets just for entertainment, some,
especially senior citizens, raise pets to help
them out of
loneliness. And other people adopt
pets only to gain the experience of raising one
kind of
animal.
Keeping pets may give
rise to some problems as well, especially in a
common place. If you
raise pets in an improper
way they can bring you trouble. Last week, one of
my friends bought
a pair of little mice on
Student Street. She kept them in the dormitory.
But the dormitory is too
small to find room
for the new Her roommates frowned on this. And
what is
worse, they were so scared of mice
that they didn't dare to stay with them. Besides,
some
animals like dogs often bark at night and
this is disturbing to the neighbors and causes
neighborhood conflict. Some pets’ owners might
set their dogs free when they are walking their
dogs. At this moment the dog may chase after
or even bite the passers-by. This might embarrass
the owners or cause injuries to others.
In my opinion, there is no doubt
that people have the right to keep pets in their
houses or
even in their dormitories if they
train the pets how to obey their orders and behave
well. Then,
the pets will not be trouble-
makers. We can not emphasize the importance of the
environment
too much. Last but not the least,
only in this way will people enjoy the company of
their pets.
There is no denying the fact
that keeping pets is a hotly debated topic today.
Some people
think keeping pets is a good thing
to do. They believe that pets, like cats and dogs,
can help
relieve the loneliness suffered by
senior citizens and other social members who are
confined to
their homes for this reason or
that. They also argue that keeping pets helps
mankind understand
animals' world and develop
positive feelings toward them.
Others,
however, hold the opposite view. They regard
keeping pets as a useless but harmful
thing to
do. First, pets can transmit diseases. Secondly,
the noises and dung of pets are sources
of
pollution. Last but not least, as many rare birds
and animals are kept as pets, they will surely
be hunted on a large scale, which means a
threat to the balance of the ecosystem.
Weighing the pros and cons of these arguments, I
am inclined to agree with the latter.
Anyway,
we can lessen our loneliness and express our love
toward animals in other ways. And
it is my
belief that only by placing man and other species
on an equal basis can we expect to
have a
lively and colorful world.
Abstract
Good employment of rhetorical devices in
advertising can improve the enjoyment,
effectiveness and
clarity of the
advertisement, and be beneficial to the mental and
psychological health of teenagers. Conversely,
the abuse of them might be potentially harmful
to the teenagers. Thus,it is of great necessity to
regulate the
language used in advertising.
Taking teenager consumer psychological factors
into account, this thesis aims to
explore
those rhetorical devices which may be appropriate
to be applied to the teenager-targeted
advertising,
