Be careful, Jim! It's dangerous. Oh, good! He's coming down the ladder, now.

Children often love to play this game. They play it like this: six students stand in a row in front of the class. They put their hands behind their backs, so you can't see their hands. The teacher gives one of them an eraser. The eraser goes from one student to another---first one way, then another. They must keep their hands behind their backs. The other students in the class keep their eyes closed. They mustn't look.

On Saturday, Ann came home from school a little earlier. She felt worried. She wanted to get ready for her party.

This is a bus stop. The people are waiting for a bus. They are stand in line.

In England they call this line a queue. You must always wait in a queue.

You must never "jump the queue".
决不可"夹塞儿"。
If you jump the queue ,other people will not be pleased!

It was a cold spring morning in the city of London in England. The weather was very cold, and many people were there were many people in the doctor's waiting room. At the head of the queue was an old woman. The woman was a visitor. She did not live in London. She lived in the country. She was in the city to visit her daughter. She wanted to see the doctor because her back hurt.
英国伦敦，一个寒冷的春天的早晨。天气非常冷，很多人生了病。所以医生的候诊室里有很多人。排头的是位老太太。这老太太是位游客，不住在伦敦。她住在农村。她是来伦敦看望女儿的。她要看医生是因为背痛。
"If I get there early, I can see the doctor quickly," she thought. So she was first in the queue. She sat nearest to the doctor's door.
"早到就能早看医生，"她想。所以她第1个排队。她坐的位子靠医生的门口最近。
An Indian came into the waiting room, and walked quickly to the doctor's door. The old woman thought he was a queue jumper. She stood up and took his arm. Slowly, she said, "We were all here before you. You must wait for your turn. Do you understand?"
一个印度人走进候诊室，快步朝医生的门口走去。老太太以为他是不按次序排队的人。她站起来，拉住他的手臂，慢条斯理地说："我们这儿个个都排在你前面。你得等轮到你才行。你懂吗？"
The Indian answered:"No, madam. You don't understand! You're all after me! I'm the doctor!"
那印度人回答说："不，夫人。你不懂！你们所有的人都在我后面！我是医生！"
Everyone laughed at the woman's mistake.
这老太太的误会惹得大家都笑起来。

LI LEI: Hi, Jim! Can you come and play football?

JIM: Sorry, I can't. I have to tidy my room.

Mrs Brown went to see her doctor.

"Doctor, I'm not feeling well," she said. "I often feel tired. If I work in the garden, I have to sit down and rest every five minutes."

The doctor looked over Mrs Brown very carefully. At last she said:"There's nothing much wrong with you, but I'm afraid you have a problem: you're eating too much!"

"I don't understand! What do you mean?" asked Mrs Brown.

"Oh dear! You mean I'm too fat? That is a problem!" said Mrs Brown. "What do I have to do if I want to be thinner?"

"The answer is easy!" said the doctor. "If you want to be thinner and healthier, you have to eat less food--and you also have to take more exercise."
"答案很简单！"医生说，"如果你想瘦些、健康些，你就得少吃一点--你还得多运动。"
"What can I eat?" asked Mrs B
rown.
"吃什么才行呢？"布朗夫人问。
"Well," said the doctor."Every day you can have one apple, one orange, one piece of dry bread, and a glass of water. If you do that, you'll soon feel much healthier."
"嗯，"医生说，"你每天可以吃一个苹果，一个桔子，一块面包，还有一杯水。如果你那样做，很快你就会感到身体健康得多。"
"Thank you, doctor," said Mrs. Brown. "No problem! Tell me, do I have to take them before or after meals?"

"Before? After?" said the doctor."No! You don't understand! Not before or after meals--instead of them."

A: Are you coming with us tomorrow ? Uncle Li said we could borrow his boat.

B: It's too far. The smaller one is nearer, and we've never been there before.

"Bring the picnic basket up here, under this big tree," said Ann. "Then the food won't get too hot. We must keep it cool."

The twins took the basket from the boat and put it under the tree.

Are there any other other people on the island? No! But the children are not alone. There are some animals on the island.

A:There's something wrong woth your ears. I think there's something near us.

A: Yes, there is somebody or something. Maybe it's a tiger!
A： 有，有人或者什么东西。可能是一只老虎！
"The boat is not safe," said Ah Fang. "Let's pull it out of the water." The children pulled the boat up from the water. Then they started to look around the island.
"这船不安全，"阿芳说，"让我们把它从水里拉出来吧。"孩子们把船从水中拉了上来。然后他们开始察看海岛的四周。
"I can hear something!" said Lucy."Does anybody live on this island?"
"我听到什么东西了！"露茜说，"岛上有人居住吗？"
"No!We're alone here. We're all by ourselves," said Jim. "Isn't that great?"

"I feel a little afraid," said Kate. "I'm sure I can smell something. There may be some dangerous animals on this island."

"Don't worry!" said Ah Fang."We're safe. Don't be afraid. Let's go for a walk."

The children started to walk around the island. They talked and laughed happily. Then they saw some banana trees.

"I want to pick some bananas," said Kate. "I'm hungry!"

They picked lots of bananas, and took them back to the boat.

"Time for our lunch," said Bruce. Then he looked around. "Oh dear! I don't understand!"

The picnic basket was no longer under the tree.

"Help!" said Bruce. "The basket isn't here!"

"I'm afraid!" cried Kate. "Let's push the boat out and go home!" She started to run to the boat.

"No, we must stay here and find our lunch," said Jim. "Somebody or something took it. We won't go until we get it back again!"

Look at Mr Fat. He was very rich. He had lots of money.

"I'm rich, so I can buy myself lots of good things!" he said."But I don't have many friends, and I don't enjoy myself very much. I don't know why!"

Look at Mr Thin. He was poor. He didn't have much money.

So he couldn't buy himself lots of good things. But he had lots of friends instead.

"I'm poor, but I always enjoy myself!" he said. "I don't know why!"

An American Boy
一个美国男孩
The Shute family lived in the southern part of the USA. Mr Shute was a farm worker, and he didn't have much money. Mr and Mrs Shute had a daughter called Jane. Then they had a second child-a son. How happy they were! They called him James and loved him very much.
舒特一家住在美国南部。舒特先生是个农场工人，他挣不到很多钱。舒特先生和夫人有一个女儿，名叫简。后来他们有了第2个孩子－－一个儿子。他们多么高兴啊！他们为他取名詹姆斯，他们非常爱他。
But there was something wrong with the child. He did everything very slowly. His parents did not know what was wrong. So one day they took him to a doctor. The doctor found that there was something wrong with James' eyes. He could not see anything. The doctor said he could do nothing to help him. Mr and Mrs Shute were very sad. But what could they do?
但是，这孩子有点毛病，他做什么都很慢。他的父母亲不知道他有什么毛病。于是有一天他们带他去看医生。医生发现詹姆斯的眼睛有毛病，他看不见任何东西。医生说他对此无能为力。舒特先生和夫人非常难过。但他们有什么办法呢？
James grew bigger every day. He was very healthy and happy, but he could not look after himself. He could not wash himself or get d, his sister or his parents had to help him.
詹姆斯一天天长大。他很健康，非常欢快。但不能照料自己。他自己不能洗澡或穿衣服，他的姐姐或父母亲就只好帮他的忙。
One day, the Shutes heard that there was a good doctor in a town not far away. Maybe he could help James. So they took the boy to visit him. The doctor looked over James and asked the Shutes many questions. At last he said,"I think I can help him. He'll be OK if I do one small operation."
有一天，舒特家人听说不远的镇上有一位好医生。也许他能给詹姆斯治病。于是他们带着詹姆斯去找他。医生给詹姆斯作了检查并问了舒特家人许多问题。最后他说："我想我能治他的病。只要我给他做一个小手术，他就会好的。"
Just one small operation? "Yes, yes. Do it, doctor!"
只是一个小手术？"好的，好的。给他做吧，医生！"
One minute ……two minutes……three……four……ten minutes. And then, James could see! How happy everyone was!
1分钟……2分钟……3……4……10分钟。紧接着，詹姆斯能看见了！大家多么高兴啊！

MARY: Summer holidays will begin next are you going to do?

There were no classes this afternoon. My classmates all went to People's Park . They had a good time, but I didn't go.
今天下午没有课。同学们都到人民公园去了。他们玩得很痛快，但我没有去。
After lunch Aunt Huang came in and she looked worried . "Grandma is ill," she said. "I must take her to hospital. But my baby, I can't leave her by herself."
午饭后黄阿姨来了，她面带愁容。"奶奶病了，"她说，"我必须送她去医院。可是我的孩子……，我不能把她一个人留着呀。"
Mum and Dad were not at home. So I said,"Don't worry. I can look after her." "Thank you,Xiao Feng." Then she left.
爸爸妈妈不在家。于是我说："别着急，我能照顾她。""谢谢你，小峰。"然后她走了。
The baby was about ten months old. At first she was asleep . Half an hour later ,she woke up and began to cry. "Don't cry," I said. I talked to her . But she looked at me and cried harder and harder . I turned on the radio. She stopped crying and listened to the music. After a few minutes she started to cry again. "Listen to me," I said. I started to sing. The baby watched and listened ,and she didn't cry any more. Then I made faces and jumped like a monkey. The baby laughed and laughted.

All that afternoon , I jumped and sang a

Once there was an old tiger. He didn't often go to look for food himself. Every day he made one of the smaller animals bring him something to eat.
从前有一只年迈的老虎，他不经常自己去寻找食物。每天他让一只小动物拿东西来给他吃。
One morning the tiger was very, very hungry. He said to a monkey, "I'm hungry, Monkey. Go and bring me some food."
一天早上老虎饿极了。他对一只猴子说："我饿了，猴子。去给我拿些吃的东西来。"
"I can't do that, Mr Tiger," said the monkey. "There's another tiger in the forest. He's younger and stronger than you are. He told me not to bring you anything. "What!" shouted the tiger."Another tiger? I want see him.I'll speak to him."
"我不能这么做呀，老虎先生，"猴子说，"这林子里还有另外一只老虎。他比你年轻，比你强壮。他吩咐我不要给你带什么东西。""什么！"老虎吼叫起来，"另一只老虎！我要见他。我要跟他谈谈。"
"Come with me, Mr Tiger," said the monkey. "You'll see him yourself."
"跟我来，老虎先生，"猴子说，"你自己见见他吧。"
The mondey took the tiger to a big river. "Look into the river," said the monkey. " There he is! See his head?
猴子领着老虎来到一条大河边。"往河里看，"猴子说，"他就在那里！看见他的头了吗？
Look at his big teeth. Isn't he bigger than you?" "Grrr ! So you told Monkey not to bring me anything! Grr I'll kill you!"
瞧他的大牙齿。他的块头不是比你大吗？""嗯……！原来是你叫猴子不要给我拿东西
！嗯……我要宰了你！"
With these words the tiger jumped into the river. He did not come out again. "Ha ha ha! Goodbye, Mr Tiger,"laughed the monkey and he went away.
说完这些话，老虎就跳进河里去了。他再也没有上来。"哈哈哈！再见，老虎先生，"猴子哈哈大笑，走开了。
