Having a teenager at home
can be a real headache. Many teenagers smoke, wear
strange
hairstyle and even fight. Basically
(基本上) , they are often taking risks.
Earlier
studies have shown that teenagers are more likely
to make irrational decisions than
people from
any other age group, including children and
adults. Is it that teenagers are too young
to
tell right from wrong? Not really. So what’s the
reason?
According to Laurence, a teacher from
a US university, the reason is that teenagers care
a lot
about how their peers (同龄人) view
them—that is “peer influence”.
As children
enter their teenage years, they spend more time
with their friends and classmates,
and also
they care more about what they think of them. This
makes teenagers make decisions
without
thinking about the costs.
In a test, a group
of teenagers were asked to play a video driving
game. When they played
with their friends
watching around them, they took more chances and
drove more carelessly
because that would
increase their possibility of winning. But when
they played alone, they drove
more safely.
Why do peers have such a big influence on
teens’ behavior?
As Laurence sees it, a
teenager’s brain is like a car with a good
accelerator (油门) but a
weak brake (刹车). The
“accelerator” is fully developed by teenage years
while the “brake” is
still not fully
developed. When teenagers are watched by their
peers, they usually push hard on
the
accelerator. With their weak brake, it is likely
that they are going to end up in an accident.

But
the good news is that a violent (暴力的) teenager
doesn’t necessarily become a violent
adult.
About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent
youth grow out of it. “They get more
self-
controlled.”
31. What does the underlined
word “irrational” in the 2nd paragraph mean?
A. Quick. B. Crazy. C. Careful. D.
Correct.
32. Why are teenagers often taking
risks according to the text?
A. They like
difficult tasks.
B. They care about costs.
C. They are too young to tell right from
wrong.
D. They care a lot about what their
peers think of them.
33. How does Laurence
explain the influence of peer influence on teens’
behavior?
A. By using a metaphor (比喻).
B. By giving examples.
C. By
presenting research findings.
D. By
performing an in-depth analysis (分析).
34.
According to the text, with peers around them,
teenagers tend to (倾向于) ________.
A. use
more self-control
B. become more careful
about what they do
C. perform better than
when they are alone
D. focus more on short-
term benefits(利益)
35. What can we learn from
the text?
A. Teenagers are easy to have
traffic accidents.
B. Peer influence is bad
on teenagers.
C. Most of the teenagers
become less violent when they grow up.
D.
Teenagers shouldn’t spend all the free time with
their friends.

Are you a
gourmand(美食主义者)? Do you want to eat every
delicious food in the world?
Then do you watch
the popular program? “A Bite of China(舌尖上的中国)” is
a documentary on
Chinese delicious food which
has been broadcasted by Chinese central
television. Is there any
holiday that isn't
celebrated with a special festival food? Here are
several traditional Chinese
foods:
Eggs
hold a special meaning in many cultures, and China
is no exception(例外). The
Chinese believe eggs
mean producing something new. After a baby is
born, parents may hold a

egg and ginger party,where they
pass out eggs to announce the birth. In some areas
of
China the number of eggs represents the sex
of the child, for example, an even number(1, 3, 5,
---)
for a girl, and an odd number(2, 4, 6
---) if a boy has been born.
Noodles
are a symbol of longlife in Chinese culture. They
are as much a part of a Chinese
birthday
celebration as a birthday cake with lit candles is
in many countries. Since noodles
represent
long life, it is considered very unlucky to cut it
off.
Although westerners sometimes may
be very sorry to see fish lying on a plate, in
China a
whole fish is a symbol of richness. In
fact, at a party it is traditional to serve the
whole fish last,
pointed toward the valued
guest. Fish also has a special meaning because the
Chinese word for
fish, yu, sounds like the
word for richness or plenty, and it is believed
that eating fish will help
your wishes come
true in the year to come.
A very popular
dish during the Dragon Boat Festival is Zongzi.
This tasty dish is made of
rice dumplings with
meat, peanut or other delicious food in bamboo
leaves. The tradition of
Zongzi is meant to
remind us of a great man, Qu Yuan.
The
50-minute program tries to bring something new by
presenting more cultural
elements(元素), such as
eating habits and the quality of eating.
36. A
bite of China is ________.
A. a book
B. a documentary
A. two B.
three
C. a guide book D. a
newspaper
C. four D. five
37. How many kinds of traditional food are
mentioned in the passage?
38. A girl has been
born in Mr. Li’s home. How many red eggs may he
pass out to his friends
according to Chinese
tradition?
A. two eggs B. none
C. three eggs D. six eggs
39. Which of
the following is RIGHT according to the passage?
A. We can cut birthday noodles off in China if
we think they are too long.
B. It is impolite
to server a whole fish last at a party in China.
C. The program lasts for one hour.
D.
There are many kinds of Zongzi during the Dragon
Boat Festival.
40. What does the writer mean
in the last paragraph?
A. The writer
thinks the program is too long.
B.
The writer thinks the program has more meanings
inside than the story itself.
C. The writer
thinks everyone can have a good eating habit after
watching the program.
D. The writer thinks the
program has brought many kinds of delicious food
to us.

Happiness is not far away
Happiness comes from the little things in
life. Simple ways in our daily life often help the
most. It is not a dream for you to make it
come true but a shining star that guides you and a
mirror that shows you the meaning of life in
the world. If you feel that happiness does not
come
to you, here are the following steps
which will lead you there.
To yourself
Start by treating yourself kindly and becoming
your own best friend.
Give up trying so hard
to become someone else who is not yourself right
now. It’s better to
just be you.
To your
life
Walk in the park or along the street with
a pet. Balance your life with activities and a
good
rest.
Play and do those activities
which gently nurture (滋养) your own mind. Playing
in your
garden or filling your home with
beautiful flowers is not a bad try and the memory
of those
flowers will be always carried with
you.
Smile as you think about the future. If
you smile, you can not have negative (消极的)
thoughts!
Concentrate on the positive
(积极的) in this world and look for joy.
To your
work
Work hard and make efforts to reach your
goals, and reward yourself when you are done.
Remove the task that is not useful. We are
learning that doing too many tasks at the same
time just doesn’t work.
Try writing down
what is troubling you, discussing your trouble
with yourself. The science
now shows that as
you write your troubles, your brain will change
for the better.
By writing a daily thanks
dairy, you will feel the positive memory and
experiences once
more, and by remembering
these moments, your levels of happiness will rise.
To your friends
You can write a “happy
letter” to your family and friends every day. Just
a short note will do.
You can do the
following:
Monday: Write a thank-you note to
your friend.
Tuesday: Write a short letter to
your friend about a good moment you have recently
experienced.
Wednesday: Write about a nice
moment you plan to experience in the future.
Thursday: Write a letter to someone that is
important in your life.

Friday: Write three things that
went really well today.

natural part of your day!
