第4课时(Reading复习总结加Vocabulary课时)
二、教学目的及要求
1、 复习文章,在了解慈善组织奥比斯医生的基本工作状况的基础上,能够使用正确的语言介
绍奥比斯医生的工作;
2、 培养对单词后缀的理解;
3、 学习用后缀-
ment、-ness、-ion来构成名词。

复习课与新授课
四、 教学方法
1、通过前期对课文的学习,以启发式、互动式等教学方法教育学生多支持慈善事业;
2、通过教师所给的一些句子,启发学生自己总结出由动词或形容词变为名词的方法。
五、教具准备
1、将录音机里的磁带录音倒回到本课Reading处;
2、从互联网和学校资源库寻找有关奥比斯工作的一些图片;
3、运用上述资源制作多媒体课件。
六、 教学重点难点
1、慈善组织奥比斯医生的基本工作状况;
2、动词或形容词后加后缀变为名词。
七、 教学过程及时间分配
Step 1 Greetings (0.5 min)
Greet the students with everyday English,
something about the weather or something
about
their daily life.
Step 2 Presentation (2 mins)
The teacher asks the students some questions
about the ORBIS doctors:
T:
What did
we learn about last class?
S: The ORBIS
doctors.
T:
Do you know what kind of
patients they help?
S: They help the
people who are blind.
……
Step 3 Listen and
answer (10 mins)
The teacher says: “
now
let’s listen to the text again and try to answer
the following
questions.
” Then the teacher
plays the tape and the students listen to the tape
and try
to answer the following questions:
1. What do ORBIS doctors do?
ORBIS
doctors treat many patients.
2. How many
people does blindness affect around the world?
Where are they mostly from?
Blindness affects
about 45 million people, mostly in poor countries.
3. How many sick people can be cured or
prevented?
About 80 per cent of the cases.
4. Why do many people not receive medical
treatment?
Because they do not have the money
for medical treatment.
5. Why do ORBIS doctors
prefer to work on a plane?
Because many
patients cannot afford to travel to hospitals.
6. How many operations did Dr Ma perform
during his last visit?
150.
7. Is it hard work for Dr Ma?
Yes, it is.
8. Is the plane only a place to perform
operations? What else?
No. Local doctors and
nurses can come to the plane to learn about eye
operations.
9. How do people feel about their
work?
People are really grateful to their
work.
10. What does ORBIS need to carry on
with the work?
ORBIS needs money to carry on
with the work.
If the students cannot answer
some of them, the teacher can give them some help,
especially for the students who are not good
at English.
To the last question, the teacher
should encourage the students to give more
different
ideas.
Step 4 Exercises (3 mins)
Amy is writing an article about ORBIS for
the school newsletter. Help her complete it
with the given words.

The
ORBIS plane travels all around the world, and many
people with eye problems visit
it. Operations
can be performed on them to help them see again. A
lot of people in poor
countries do not have
enough money to go to hospital, but ORBIS doctors
can go to them.
ORBIS doctors can also teach
local doctors and nurses new skills and share
their knowledge.
Dr Ma is a doctor on the
ORBIS plane. Many people are very grateful to him
because he
has helped them see again. The
patients do not have to pay because ORBIS is a
charity. Dr
Ma believes that most eye problems
can be cured by modern medicine, but more money is
needed.
He hopes that more donations can be
sent to ORBIS to support their work.
Step 5
Retell the story (5 mins)
The teacher let the
students try to retell the story. The students can
act as an
interviewer and Dr Ma. They will be
given 3 minutes to prepare for it, and they can
retell
the story with the help of the
questions of Step 3.
During this step, the
teacher must check the students’ mistakes.
Step 6 Consolidation (4 mins)
The
teacher says to the students: “boys and girls, we
have finishing learning the text,
now think
‘What can we do for ORBIS?’”
We can send
donations to ORBIS. ……
To this question, the
teacher should encourage the students to give more
different ideas.
Step 7 Presentation (5 mins)
The teacher shows the students three
sentences, and asks them to find out the
differences
of the underlined words.

After hearing the
students’ opinions, the teacher explains the
function of the suffixes
–ment, -ness, and
then introduces another suffix –ion. And tells
them to pay attention
to some words, such as
happy-happiness, invite-invitation.
Step 8 Consolidation (4
mins)
Tell the students the following
conclusion, make the students understand them, and
should use different suffixes after different
words:
1. –ment 加在一些动词后面,表示动作的过程或结果等。
Eg. agree agreement state statement
move movement
2. –ness
加在一些形容词的后面,构成抽象名词,表示性质、情况或状态等。
Eg. ill

3. –ion
加在一些动词后面,构成抽象名词,表示行为以及行为的过程或结果、情况、状态等。

Step 9 Exercises (10 mins)
Exercise 1
Ask the students to change the
following verbs and adjectives into nouns in 3
minutes.
If the students can’t make sure they
can use their dictionaries for help.
And check
the answers, then ask the students to read the
words after the teacher.

Daniel heard about UNICEF on
the radio. He sent Amy an e-mail to tell her about
it.

attention to change some of the words into nouns.
