The teacher shouldn’t expect the
pupils to be able to repeat what they’ve
heard
immediately. This will naturally happen in stages
and probably at

different times and in different ways
for each pupil.
When introducing the song, at
first learn to say the new words. Talking
about the various ways of learning used by
pupils could be of enormous
benefit to the
whole class. Role playing activities are extremely
important.
Using these activities, pupils
learn to use the language naturally in an
enjoyable way. Sometimes pupils show
unexpected creativity when doing
these
activities. Children like to act and to imitate
gestures and voices.
This contributes
enormously to the development of their
pronunciation
and intonation.
Later the
teacher could suggest that the pupils act out the
scenes in the
classroom. The pupils should try
to imitate as much as possible the voices
and
intonation on the cassette.

This will naturally happen in stages and probably
at
different times and in different ways for
each pupil. Pupils who don’t like

repeating words are often simply shy
and the fact that they don’t repeat
things
doesn’t mean that they haven’t learnt the word.
Some pupils don’t
speak until they feel
absolutely sure of themselves. It is therefore
important not to try and push them, as pupils
will learn in their own time.
If the pupils
make mistakes during this role-playing activity,
do not
correct them while they are acting out
the scene. It is better to work on
language
improvement later with the class as a whole. The
pupils should
then discuss in their mother
tongue how they would have behaved in the
same
situation.
