If someone asked you to draw
a picture of a robot, how would it look? Like a
person? That’s how
we often picture robots in
our minds. But real robots look many different
ways.
Some robots have TV cameras for eyes.
Some have special cells that help them touch. Many
have computer brains. How robots look depends
on the job they have to do. Some can even have
their parts changed so they can do different
jobs.
Some robots look like huge bugs. NASA
sent Viking Landers to Mars in 1976. They moved
around on the surface, picked up soil, and did
experiments.
Robots can do boring jobs. They
can do dangerous jobs with fast-moving machinery.
They can
do messy jobs, such as spray
painting. They can do jobs no person could do,
such as picking up
hot metal.
Robots don’t
get bored. They don’t get tired. They don’t mind
getting messy.
Some people are afraid robots
will take jobs away from people. But that doesn’t
have to happen.
After all, people are in
charge of robots. People must remember that robots
are good at some
things and humans are good at
others.
Some robots go around telling people
that they don’t have to be afraid of robots. These
robots
help people understand that robots can
do dull, nasty jobs so people can do better ones.

because this may bring an attack. Intead, you
can walk away slowly.
We should know what all
bears can be dangerous and we should treat them

Volunteering is a great way to be good for
your community. It can also be a chance to meet
new
people and learn new skills. If you'd like
to give something besides money, go to
organizations that
are important to you.
Do you want to help the world or your
community? Do you want to build your own skills,
make
new friends, and learn? Do you love what
you do? Examining these kinds of questions can
help you
to choose the kind of volunteer work.
If you like reading, for example, find out if
there is an organization of volunteer tutors in
your
area. There are organizations doing all
kinds of work. Finding the right organization is
very
important for you.
If you are
already busy, volunteer your time for an hour or
two per week or perhaps one day per
month. Try
turning off the TV! You might be surprised how
much you can accomplish in even a little
time.
Then, if you find you enjoy the work and have more
time to do it, try to do more.
If your
organization has a formal training, attend it. If
not, or if you still don't know where to
begin, ask to work with an experienced
volunteer or group. Then, ask lots of questions
and give it a
shot.
Sometimes you may have
less-pleasant tasks. If you find your work
unpleasant, you can look
for ways to ease the
task or prepare better next time.
A. Put it
together.
B. Start small.
C. Look for an
organization or activity in your area or
community.
D. Get training.
E. Consider
why you want to volunteer.
F. Choose an
organization that is meaningful to you.
