It sounded like ice, that awful
sound I experienced in the icy Cook
Inlet
years ago. It didn’t alarm me, and that’s how I
knew I was asleep,
because there was no ice
where we were.
My door flew open, the
engineer shouting, “Get up!” I got out
and
climbed up to the wheelhouse, and there in front
of us was the
reef(礁) marker, the one that we
shouldn’t get anywhere near. Our ship
ran
aground(搁浅), and in the open waters a 6foot swell
was rolling in
over the reef, picking up the
ship and dropping us onto the reef with a
frightening shake. We were stuck, and were
going to break up on that reef
if we stayed
there. On the cold Alaskan night, if you went into
the water,
you only had a few minutes before
death came.
I started telling jokes. No one
was hurt! The ship was still holding
together,
and we still had the lifeboats. Even when what we
had to do was
try to survive, there was much
to be thankful for. When you find yourself
in
that kind of situation, thinking a lot about the
failures that got you to
that point serves no
purpose. Worrying about it will not save anyone,
so
we went to work. Finally, we got ourselves
off the reef and moved slowly
over to a bay,
with the bottom holed. I’ll never forget the
feeling of being
safe in the bay after that
accident.
I would like to say that it makes
no sense to focus on the 5%
which is bad in
your life, when 95% of it is good. In truth, even
when
95% of it is bad, it still makes sense to
be thankful for the 5% that is good.
There is always something to be
thankful for in a horrible situation, and
always something to be learned on a
spiritual(精神的) level. Gratitude
isn’t just a
direct line to happiness; it can also save your
life!
24. Why did the awful sound fail to
alarm the author in the beginning?
A. It was a
scene happening in his dream.
B. He was too
tired to give any opinion.
C. He knew exactly
what it was by experience.
D. His knowledge of
the sea misguided him.
25. What does Paragraph
2 show?
A. The change of the sea.
B. The
danger of the situation.
C. The importance of
responsibility.
D. The extreme weather in
Alaska.
26. What message can we know from the
third paragraph?
A. Lifeboats are necessities
in voyages.
B. The body of the ship was
damaged seriously.
C. The major worry for
those on board was safety.
D. Learning lessons
from failures is quite important.
27. What
does the author advise people to do at last?
A. Focus on living in the present.
B. Be
brave in face of danger.
C. Always be thankful
for what they have.
D. Never give up
their chance of success.

The average American
family will spend somewhere around $$637
on
backtoschool supplies for each elementary school
child this year
and twice that for a high
school student. Add to that the fact that both
children and parents feel anxious about the
transition(过渡) of going back
to school at the
end of summer. For this, Jermaine Smith of
Cleveland
and four other barbers decided to
cut the hair for about 40 kids and teens
for
free last Saturday.
In fact, Smith has been
giving back to the community in other
ways
long before this weekend. He cuts hair by day, but
in the evenings,
after bringing his daughter
home from school, he goes to work as a police
officer.
“A lot of parents bring their
kids to me for haircuts because I’m
a police
officer. They trust me because they think that I
teach kids to do
the right things in the
barber shop. I always tell young men that they
always get to stay neat and attractive, and
people tend to treat them with
respect,” Smith
says. “When you get your hair cut, you look good
and
feel good. ”
Maybe a service
that would only cost $$15 regularly seems like
just a drop in the bucket, but child and teen
psychologist Dr. Barbara
Greenberg sees this
as more than just a onetime free service. Other
free
haircut and school supply events have
appeared unexpectedly all across
the country
this month, as organizers have recognized how much
parents
can use this extra help.
Greenberg tells Yahoo, “One of the ways to make a
transition
easier is to make it fun and
introduce something new or unusual, so the
whole idea of getting a haircut makes kids
feel special and important.”
The haircuts were
just part of the Start School on the Right Foot
event,
which also handed out about 50
backpacks full of school supplies.
28. What
does the text tell about Jermaine Smith and other
barbers?
A. The way that they help children
and parents.
B. The fun that they find in
returning to school.
C. The advice that they
offer on summer holidays.
D. The view that
they hold on preparing for a new term.
29.
Which of the following can best describe Jermaine
Smith?
A. Honest and generous.
B. Creative
and friendly.
C. Grateful and thoughtful.
D. Reliable and responsible.
30. What does
Jermaine Smith want young people to do?
A. Leave a good impression on people.
B. Form a healthy lifestyle.
C. Treat
people with respect.
D. Get along well with
others.
31. What is Dr. Barbara Greenberg glad
to see?
A. People try to make kids feel
special and important.
B. More people take
action to help kids in school.
C. People amuse
the little kids in schools regularly.
D. More
parents are willing to work together.

are
small, standalone rooms for a person to
use, often set up near living
communities.
Every foursquaremeter room is equipped with

can let down the shades for privacy.
When exercising, users can listen to

fitness
experience is not entirely nascent.
Last December, the Shanghaibased
technology
company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office
and
apartment buildings.
The sharing
economy is still becoming popular in China.
According to Yicai Global, confident investors
are pouring millions into
sharing startups.
In March, the State Information Center published a
report which predicts that the total value of
China’s sharing economy
will see a yearly
growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is
expected to
contribute around 10% to the
country’s GDP by 2020.
32. What makes the
shared gym room different from the regular one?
A. Being free to be used.
B.
Holding one person at a time.
C. Standing in
the living zone.
D. Having some advanced
equipment.
33. What can we learn about the
shared gym room from the text?
A. Users can
have a shower in it after exercise.
B. Users
who want to use it need a smartphone.
C. Users
who use it first need to pay 99.2 yuan.
D.
Users’ privacy can’t be protected while they are
exercising.
34. What does the underlined word
“nascent” probably mean in
Paragraph 5?

How many times have
you started to make changes in your life,
study a certain topic, or start a certain
project, only to stop after a short
while? It
is mainly due to lack of an inner driving force.
__36__ So how
to get it? Here are a few tips
that can help you.
Start with small goals.
It is easier to display motivation(动力) in
connection with
short-term goals. When
it comes to long-term goals, it is always hard to
keep the motivation for a long period of time,
unless you have strong
determination. __37__
After learning to awaken motivation and increase
the ambition(抱负), you can proceed to bigger
goals.
__38__
Writing it down will help
you describe it in clear and brief words.
The
more specific it is, the easier it would be to
focus on it and awaken
the necessary
motivation.
Make workable plans.
With
small steps that are easy to follow, insist on
taking at least one
step a day. __39__ When
you see a goal as doable(可做的), it would be
easier to become motivated and energetic.
Read encouraging quotes related to the topic
of your goal.
I suggest that you read a few in
the morning and again at night,
before you go
to sleep. You may also read them at any other time
of the
day. __40__
So, what are you
waiting for? If you want to make changes in your
life you need to start them now, this very
moment, and not tomorrow.
A. Awaken the
motivation.
B. Make your goal very clear.
C. What is an inner driving force, and why do
we need it?
D. In order to achieve something,
you need the driving force.
E. You can
write a few on a piece of paper or save them in
your
smartphone.
F. This is why it is
wiser to start with small goals, which you can
finish
quite fast.
G. This will give you
confidence, and make you believe that the goal is
within your reach.

61. 答案 because
故填because。
64. 答案 the
故填the。
65. 答案 to show

67.
答案 With
故填With。
68.
different kinds
70. 答案 be spent

whichthat。
第三处:concerning改为concerned as far as sb. be

Dear Tom,
You told me in your last email that you were
interested in the
Double Ninth Festival. Now,
I’ll tell you something about it. It falls on
the ninth day of the ninth month of the
Chinese lunar calendar, and thus it
gets the
name of the Double Ninth Festival.
In ancient
China, the number nine is the largest number,
which
sounds similar to the word “forever” in
Chinese. During that day, we
usually climb
mountains, pay a visit to the elderly to show
respect for
them.
Most of us are busy and
have little time to stay with our parents at
home, so I think we’d better try to spare time
to spend quality time with
the elderly in our
family.
Yours,
Li Hua
