A Bad Impression(一个坏印象)
Six people were travelling in a compartment on a train. Five
of them were quiet and well behaved, but the sixth was a rude
young man who was causing a lot of trouble to the other
passengers.(有六个人搭乘火车旅行，坐在同一车箱内。其中五个很
安静，也很规矩。但第 六个是个粗鲁的年轻人，给其他乘客招惹了许
多麻烦。)
At last this young man got out at a station with his two heavy
bags. None of the other passengers helped him, but one of them
waited until the rude young man was very far away and then opened
the window and shouted to him, left something behind in the

The young man truned around and hurried back with his two
bags. He was very tired when he arrived, but he shouted through
the window, did I leave behind?As the train began to move
again, the passenger who had called him back opened the window
and said, 年轻人转过身子，拎着两个
沉甸甸的皮箱，匆匆赶了回来 。他转回来时，显得非常疲倦，对着窗

最动听的歌
There was once a lonely girl who longed so much for love.
One day while she was walking in thewoods she found two starving
songbirds.
从前，有个孤单的女孩十分期待爱。有一天，在丛林里散步的时< br>候，她发现了两只饿得奄奄一息的小鸟。。
She took them home and put them in a small cage. She cared
them with love and the birds grew strong.
女孩儿把它们带回了家，放在了一个小笼子里。小女孩倾注了很
多的爱照料它们，鸟儿一天天地好起来。
Every morning they greeted her with a wonderful song. The
girl felt great love for the birds.

每天清晨，鸟儿们都会用美妙的歌声问候小女孩。女孩情不自禁
地爱上这两只鸟儿。
One day the girl left the door to the cage open. The larger
and stronger of the two birds flewfrom the cage.
一天，小女孩打开了鸟笼。那只较大的鸟儿便飞了出来。女孩儿
十分担心鸟儿会飞走。
The girl was so frightened that he would fly away. As he flew
close, she grasped him wildly. Herheart felt glad at her success
in capturing him.
当鸟儿飞过来时，小女孩便紧紧地把它抓在手中。捉到鸟儿后，
女孩感到非常高兴。
Suddenly she felt the bird go limp. She opened her hand and
stared in horror at the dead desperate love had killed
him.
突然间，她觉得手中 的鸟儿渐渐没了气力。她赶紧松开紧握的双
手，并惊恐地看着已死去的鸟儿。女孩意识到是自己不顾一切 的爱害
死了它。
She noticed the other bird moving back and forth on the edge
of the cage.
刚好在这时，另一只鸟儿在笼子里正用力地扇着翅膀。
She could feel his great need for freedom. He needed to soar
into the clear, blue sky.
女孩深切地体会到它对自由的无限向往——它希望在蓝蓝的天空
中自由飞翔。
She lifted him from the cage and tossed him softly into the
air. The bird circled once, twice,three times.
女孩把鸟儿从笼中拿了出来，并用双手将鸟儿托起，轻轻 地抛向
空中。鸟儿在空中盘旋着，一圈，两圈，三圈……
The girl watched delightedly at the bird's enjoyment. Her
heart was no longer concerned withher loss.
女孩看着鸟儿快乐的样子感到高兴极了。她已经没有时间去在意
失去的东西，只是祝愿鸟儿能够幸福。
She wanted the bird to be happy. Suddenly the bird flew
closer and landed softly on hershoulder. It sang the sweetest
melody that she had ever heard.
突然间，鸟儿飞了过来，轻轻地落在她的肩上。鸟儿唱起了女孩
所听过的最动听的歌。

A man was going to the house of some rich person. As he went
along the road, he saw a box of good apples at the side of the
road. He said,
man will give me much food; he will give me very nice food to
he took the apples and threw them away into the dust.
He went on and came to a river. The river had become very
big; so he could not go over it. He waited for some time; then
he said, cannot go to the rich man's house today, for I cannot
get over the river.
He began to go home. He had eaten no food that day. He began
to want food. He came to the apples, and he was glad to take them
out of the dust and eat them.
Do not throw good things away; you may be glad to have them
at some other time.
【译文】
一个人正朝着一个富人的房子走去，当他沿着路走时，在路的一
边他发现一箱好 苹果，他说：“我不打算吃那些苹果，因为富人会给我
更多的食物，他会给我很好吃的东西。”然后他拿 起苹果，一把扔到土
里去。
他继续走，来到河边，河涨水了，因此，他到不了河对岸，他 等
了一会儿，然后他说：“今天我去不了富人家了，因为我不能渡过河。”
他开始回家， 那天他没有吃东西。他就开始去找吃的，他找到苹
果，很高兴地把它们从尘土中翻出来吃了。
不要把好东西扔掉，换个时候你会觉得它们大有用处。
