a. the following pictures show the sources of some natural
fibers. please write the four important natural fibers under the
pictures.

are some fabrics and their structures. please match them to
the terms below with the help of your dictionary.

choosing fabrics

background: sophie stein (a) is the chief designer of plato
garment co. ltd. ann (b) is a new purchasing agent of the
company. as a trainee employee, ann wants to learn some
practical knowledge about clothing fabrics and trimmings, so
she goes to a market of selling fabrics with sophie and help
her choose some fabrics those are suitable for a series of
sophie’s new designs.

b: miss stein, this is the first time for me to purchase some
fabrics for your designs. you know, i am a major of
international trade. i am not good at matching colors, fabrics
and fashions. may i

get some information in this field?

a: sure. first, you need to know different kinds of fabrics, and
try to distinguish them and use them for various effects.

b: i knew a little about some common fabrics, like cotton,
polyester, nylon etc. and i have come across this word----lycra
in some magazines, someone call it magic, why?


a: well, for designers, it really has made it possible to get
maximum fit and comfort through simple design. for the
wearers, it permits a close fit without sacrificing comfort.

b: will you please explain what lycra is in detail?

a: sure. lycra is a man-made elastic fiber, invented and
produced only by dupont. a dupont chemist named joe shiver
was the “father of lycra” ---- he invented the fiber with a team
of people in 1958. until the mid-1980s, few designs had used
lycra in ready-to-wear, but its great popularity in sportswear
made them experiment with this unique fiber. they were
excited to find it added comfort and freedom of movement to
garments and improved the fit, shape retention, drape and
wrinkle resistance of the clothes.

b: how could it make clothes comfortable to wear and free to
move though they are tight?

a: because it has lasting elasticity. you can stretch it four to
seven times its original length, yet it can returns to its starting
size once you release the tension.

b: is lycra a fiber that clothes are completely made from?

a: no, it is usually added to other fabrics, making them more
elastic.

b: but what exactly is it mixed with? cotton?

a: generally speaking, we mix it with cotton or wool or other
synthetic fibers like polyester or nylon.

b: does it change the appearance of a given fabric, for
instance, cotton or wool?

a: no, it wouldn’t change the appearance of a fabric, since
there is only a small part of it. nor would it change the feeling
of the fabric.

b: that is to say that garments with lycra can both be more
comfortable and in shape only because of its elastic character.
is that right?

a: you’ve got it. fashion, comfort and shape recovery are the
winning reasons for the use of lycra in fabrics.

b: is the suit you wear today lycra blended?

a: no. but my underwear is. actually, many people wear lycra-
mixed underwear nowadays.

garment fabric

fabric suitability is determined by characteristics such as fiber,
weave, texture, performance,

hand, pattern, and color.

textile fiber

to understand the knowledge of the classification about textile
fiber is the first step in the

study of textile. the textile fiber can be classified into two
groups: the natural and the man-made fiber. natural fiber can
further be classified into vegetable, animal and mineral fiber.

fiber may be classified according to their original
characteristics and generic types.

the classification of textile fibers

the natural fiber has a different performance, and the price is
becoming higher and higher and some of them are very
expensive. otherwise, the regenerated fiber has a poor
performance, and it is cheaper than natural fiber. the synthetic
fiber has a good performance and is relatively cheaper. in fact,
there are many blended products in the market. the blend can
decrease the cost of

products, and enhance the performance of fibers. many of the
present blends include polyester, which gives a high
performance level with relatively low costs.

fabric

fabric is the material used to make up garment. as one of the
three basic elements, fabric can annotate the style and
character of garment and decide the color and pattern directly.

1. classification

according to the component, fabrics can be classified into:
cotton, linen, wool, silk, man-made fiber fabric, knitting fabric,
leather. the main characteristics of each fabric are as below:

cotton: cotton fabric, which is the most commonly used fabric
in garment, is a general term involving all kinds of cotton
textile. it. used in the fashion dress, leisure ware, underwear


and shirt. the advantages are warm, light, soft, moisture
absorption and permeability. the disadvantage is easy-frilling,
easy shrinking and ironing frequently.

linen: linen feels cool and leathery, and it is good intensity,
heat-conduction and moisture absorption. it is used as the
fabric in leisure wear, gabardine and summer dress, but it
wrinkles easily. a crease-resistant finish now applied to dress
linens increases their wearability.

wool: the collection of all kinds of wools and cashmere. it is
usually only applied to high-quality garments, such as full
dress or business suit. it’s wearable, soft, elegant, elastic and
warm. however, they are hard to wash, and are easily damaged
by moths.

silk: it is called the “queen of fabrics”, and usually only
applied to high- quality garments, especially for the woman’s
wear. the main characteristics of silk lining are its light weight,
soft, elegance, luxury, colorful and good moisture absorption.
the disadvantages are crease and fading easily.

man-made fiber fabric: it is generally used for low to medium
price garment. it includes

——clothes的教学设计

一.教学内容:

1. 服装词汇的复习.

2. 引申句型i like the blue …dress…

二.教学目标

1、知识目标


复习所学过的服装单词,掌握相关单词(能够做到听,说,认读):
句型how much is it? it’s…并能综合运用新、旧知识组织对话完成
一定交际任务。

2、能力目标

(1)能用英语简单介绍自己的服装如:this is my pants. it’s blue.
it’s beautiful.

i like it.

(2)能够询问价格,和服务员对话,如:-- can i help you ?

-- yes. how much is it?

……

(3)能够自己根据自己的喜好选择,搭配衣服。培养学生的观察力、
想象力、动手

操作能力,提高学生感受美、欣赏美的水平,发展学生综合素质。

3、情感目标

激发学生学习英语的兴趣,调动学习积极性,引导学生积极与他人
合作,在活动中培养学生的 协作精神和竞争意识,培养学生心灵手
巧、热爱生活的良好品德。 三.教学准备

1、cai课件(关于服装的);

2、各种各样的服装卡片

3、各种各样的服装(学生自己最喜欢的);

四.教学过程

1. warm-up

(1)free talk 师生日常用语对话;

(2)weather chant(随chant唱唱、跳跳,营造一个轻松欢快的


堂气氛,激发学生兴趣,拉近师生间的距离,同时显示课堂内容主
题。)

2. preview

t手拿一个装有marker的盒子边摇边问:what’s in the box?
guess,

please.当学生们猜到是marker时又问:what colour is it?(猜
谜游 戏能够激励起学生好奇心,吸引他们的注意力,激发学生的兴
趣,同时非常好的复习本课相关的颜色词汇 。)

3. presentation

(1)t出示cai(课件) :一个小房间里放了一个关着的橱柜。t让
学生guess,也许更多的学生会用中文说一些服装名称, 橱柜打开,t


可以随便引出:yes, there are many clothes in it. do you want
to know?同时橱柜变成了大大的课题clothes.

(2)ok,boys and girls .let’s have a look . cai依次显示不同的
服装look , what’s this ?. 带读单词dress,学生跟读.师生对话:
what colour is it? it’s …. i like the …dress.

(3)cai呈现一些不同颜色的同类服装,t 问:what do you like ?
引导学生用i like the blue …dress…回答。(引申句型的练习)

(4)t:today is sunday .let’s go shopping . cai呈现一个服装专
卖店。t:oh ,i like the red sweater . how much is it? (cai在
sweater上出现¥50.)引导学生回答:it’s 50 yuan.再带读how
much is it ?

4. 活动操练

(1)两人小组活动,s1:what do you like? s2::i like the white
jacket.

s1: ok,here you are .把卡片拿给对方。

(2)my clothes 设计大赛

a.从众多服装卡片中自由选择设计一件自己喜欢的衣服。(教师

在讲台上解说并示范)

uce your clothes (以小组为单位,用所学过的英语

自编一段话互相介绍自己的衣服)

c.评选最佳设计师 t: ask and answer each other. (通过问答,再
结合作品的设

计及作者的介绍,评出小组最佳设计师。在此基础上通过投影展示
评出班级最佳设计师。)

d.拍卖服装(把学生们设计的服装放在一起,把教室布置成一条购
物街,学生们自由结组。用can i help you ? i like the blue
…dress… how much is it? it’s…yuan.等句子合编一段对话,然
后表演。)

5. consolidation and extension(巩固与拓展)

课后可以让学 生们自己给自己的家人或是好朋友设计自己觉得漂亮
的衣服,可以把学生们的作品整理,贴在教室的取名 为“my clothes”
的墙壁上,既美化了教室,又增强了学生学习英语的兴趣和自信心,
让他们觉的有成就感。(不方便粘贴的服装可以让学生们拍成照
片。)

总结课堂,对表现突出的学生给予奖励,并颁发最佳小组设计 奖、
最佳班级

设计奖,最佳表演奖。

课后反思:

本堂英语综合实践课使学生根据自己的生活实际,现实需要,学习
更新的英语,学习自己真正 需要,自己真正想知道的英语;这样就
将学生们的“要我学”变成了“我要学”,把学生的认识引向了生 活中,
不再局限在课本上;真正做到了自主学习。而让学生们设计出自己
喜欢的服装这一环节, 发挥了学生们的想象力,通过服装设计练习,
不仅给学生们提供了更多的动手实践机会,重要的是这样还 发展了
学生的创造力,培养了学生们的想象力、动手能力和审美情趣;通
过介绍自己的作品,又 锻炼他们语言表达能力真正把英语运用到了
现实生活中去;使它不再仅仅停留在书本上。让学生们自己觉 得“我
好棒”,自己能用英语这样的介绍自己的作品。这样就增强了学生们
学习英语的兴趣和信 心。通过买卖服装,培养学生的协作精神和交
际能力,其主体性得以充分发挥,积极性得到充分

调动,充分体现出英语课与其它学科的整合,英语与生活的紧密联
系。富有生活气息的英语课堂 定会充满无限的生机和活力。最后的
小结评价是必不可少的,教师发扬民主,学生们的自评,这也体现< br>出新课标领导下的学生主体性。
