【英语】英语阅读理解练习题及答案

一、阅读理解
1.根据短文理解,选择正确答案。

A

Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true.
Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to
communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here are some suggestions for you to
bridge generation gap(代沟).

Don't argue with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents
probably won't consider your ideas if you are shouting at them You can't express(表达)
yourself well if you are angry. Go to some place to cool off. Make sure you understand why you
are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don't think you can
speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.

Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree(有分歧) on
something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael's
mother didn't agree with him about buying a car. They argued over it, but finally they came to a
compromise. Michael bought the car, but only drove it on certain days.

Of course your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is
especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your
relationship strong.

Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your
own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help
them see your purposes in life.

A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth
having a try.

If music makes you smarter and exercise helps you to think, surely exercising to music can
turn you into a clever person.

A team of scientists from Ohio State University did experiments on 33 volunteers who were
getting better from heart disease after operations. They found those volunteers who exercised
while listening to Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons did much better on
language ability tests than without music. It is also used in medical fields for patients who have
had head hurts because of its moderate tempo (舒缓的节拍).

“Exercise seems to cause positive changes in the nerve (神经) system and these changes
may improve the learning ability of people with heart disease,” said the psychologist Charles
Emery, who led the study. “And listening to music is thought to enhance understanding. We just
wanted to put the two results together,” he added.

The volunteers said they felt better emotionally and physically after exercising with or without
music. But their improvement on the test doubled after listening to music during exercise.
Scientists have proved that music can be good for health and education. It helps reduce stress
and sadness, encourage relaxation or sleep, wake up the body and improve memory and
thoughts.

Scientists have been studying the results of exercise to music on learning and understanding
since the early 1950s. A study showed that students who listened to Mozart's violin pieces and
exercised went on to get higher marks in an IQ test. With important exams drawing near, your

On the afternoon of the day that we arrived in Xingcheng, we left for Qinhuangdao. It was

Some people bring out the best in you in a way that you might never have fully realized on your
own. My mother was one of those people.

My father died when I was one year-old. While I was growing up, we led a very hard life, but
my mom gave me a lot of love. Bach night, she seated me on her lap and, spoke the words that
would change my life,
if you work hard enough to get it.

At fourteen, I was hit by a car and the doctors said that I would never walk again. Every might
my mother spoke to me in her gentle, loving voice, telling me whatever those doctors said, I
could walk again if I wanted to. She drove that message so deep into my heart that I finally
believed her. A year later, I walked on my own to school!

When the Great Depression broke out, my mother lost her job. Then I left school to support
the two of us. At that moment I decided never to be poor again.

Over the years, I experienced a lot of business success. But the real turning point happened on
a vacation I took with my wife and five kids in 1951. I was dissatisfied with the second-class hotels
available for families and was very angry, that they charged an extra $$2 for each child. That was
too expensive for an ordinary American family. I told my wife that I was going to open a motel

(汽车旅馆) for families that would never charge extra money for children. Many people did
not believe me at that time.

Not surprisingly, mom was my strongest supporter. As in any business, I experienced a lot of
difficulties. But with my mom's words in my heart, I never doubted I would succeed. Fifteen years
later, I had the largest hotel system in the world- Holiday Inn. In 1979 my company had 1,759 inns
in more than fifty countries with an income of $$I billion a year.

You may not have started out life in the best situations. But if you find a task in life worth
working for and believe in yourself, nothing can stop you.

Why does the sky change colors?

What is the sky? How high is it? What color is it? What birds can live above it? These questions
are difficult to answer, aren't they?

In fact, the sky has no color. Then why does the sky look blue?

We know that there is air around the world. When planes fly, they need air to lift their wings.
Planes can't fly very high. That is because the air gets thinner when they go higher. The same will
happen to us if we go high enough. If we go up about 1, 200 kilometers from the earth, we'll find
no air there. Some birds can fly into the sky as high as a plane, but they cannot fly or live without
air.

Looking up above us, you will see the blue sky with white clouds. It is usually light blue. The
color would be bluer when you see on the top of a high mountain. And you will see fewer clouds
in the sky between you and the sun.

Sometimes the sky doesn't look blue. When the sun rises and falls, you will see red, orange,
and other colors in the sky. Such are the most beautiful moments of the day.

Who can see the colors of the sky high above the earth? The astronauts! They can see those
beautiful colors of the sky from the outer space. However, before flying into outer space, they sit
in a spaceship high above the earth, and there is no air at all. The sky would be that dark and its
color would be black.

Now you may understand that we see colors because the air scatters(使散射) the sunlight.
light travels through the air. Without air, there would be no light or colors.

(1)Planes can't fly as high as possible because_________.

A. the sky is blue

B. the wings are heavier

C. the sky has no color

D. the air becomes thinner

(2)When you stand on the top of a high mountain, you will see_________.

A. more air B. the bluer sky C. more colors D. more clouds

(3)In Ningbo, we might see many colors in the sky at _________during the day.

A. 6: 00 a. m. B. 10: 00 a. m. C. 1: 00 p. m. D. 2: 00 p. m.

(4)The sky changes colors because____________.

A. it's colorful itself

B. the world is colorful

C. the sunlight has colors

D. the air scatters the sunlight

【答案】 (1)D

(2)B

(3)A
