Unit 1 Teacher’s Day He was young then.

Jenny: What are you doing, Danny?
Danny: I’m making cards. This one is for my favourite teacher.
Jenny: Oh, tomorrow is September 10. It’s Teachers’ Day.
Jenny: Who’s your favourite teacher?
Danny: Guess. She’s young.
Jenny: Is she tall?

When we see different colours, we may have different feelings. When
we stay in a red room, we may feel excited or become angry easily.
When we see yellow, we may feel warm and happy. When we wear
blue clothes, we may feel calm and peaceful. But sometimes blue may
make us sad. So when you are sad, you can say “I feel blue.”

Unit 3 Birthday When is your birthday, Li Ming?

Li Ming: Look, how happy they are!
Danny: They’re having a birthday party.
Wang Hong: When is your birthday, Li Ming?
Li Ming:It’s in March.
Wang Hong: When is your birthday, Peter?
Peter: My birthday is in May.
Peter: When is your birthday, Wang Hong?

Jenny: The family get together. We have a big dinner. We sing Christmas
songs.
Li Ming: Do you get presents?
Jenny: Yes. We get presents from Santa. He brings toys in his sack.

Jenny: Yes. It’s a big bag.

Mum: Come on, children. Let’s decorate the Christmas tree.
Children: OK.
Mum: I will put the star here.
Jenny:I will put the light on the tree.
Li Ming: Let me help you.
Li Ming: What will you do, Danny?
Danny: I will put the balls on the tree.
Li Ming: Shall we put the stocking on the tree?
Jenny: No. I will put it at the end of my bed.

It was Christmas morning. Li Ming and Danny went to Jenny’s home.
They said “Merry Christmas” to Jenny’s family.
There was a beautiful Christmas tree in the living room. There were
many presents under the tree.
Jenny got a nice dress. Li Ming got a book about animals. Danny got
a football. He played it with his tail. They all laughed.
In the evening, they had a big dinner. “It’s so good to have you here
today,” said Jenny’s father. Everyone had a wonderful day.

Christmasis a western festival. People don’t work. Children don’t go
to school. They have a two-week holiday. They often travel. They send
cards to their friends. They also help the poor. Parents often pretend to be
Santa and give presents to their children. They tell stories about Christmas.

Unit 7 Spring Festival Did you have a big dinner?

Li Ming: The Spring Festival is coming.
Jenny: Oh, it’s Chinese New Year. But when is it?
Li Ming: It’s usually in February. Sometimes it’s in January.
Jenny: What do you usually do at the Spring Festival?
Li Ming: Before the Spring Festival, we clean our home. We buy flowers
and new clothes.
Li Ming: On the first day of the Spring Festival, the family get
wear new clothes. We visit our relatives and friends.
Danny: We usually eat jiaozi. We set off fireworks.
Jenny: That’s interesting.
Li Ming: We’ll visit my grandparents this year. Would you like to come
with us, Jenny?
Jenny: I’d love to. Thank you!

Li Ming: Ihad a good time last Spring Festival.
Jenny: Did you go to your grandparents’ house?
Li Ming: No, we didn’t. my grandparents came to my home.
Jenny:Did you have a big dinner?
Danny: Yes, we did.
Jenny: Did you eat at home?
Li Ming: No, we didn’t. We ate out.

Jenny and Danny are in the country. They will have the Spring Festival
with Li Ming’s family. They are very excited. “Shall we get presents?”
asks Jenny. “Sure. And we’ll get luck money, too,” says Danny. “But
not from Santa.”
On the eve of the Chinese New Year they will eat jiaozi with the
family. Then they will set off fireworks. It’s the time to welcome the new
year.
Early the next morning, Jenny and Danny will wear their new clothes.
They will go with Li Ming to visit his relatives. They will say “Happy
Spring Festival!”

I’m Mary. I live in London. I often visit Chinatown. I like Chinese
New Year. At that time. People there wear Chinese clothes. There is Beijing
Opera, lion dances and dragon dances. Chinese food is delicious. Jiaozi and
niangao are their favourites. Everything in Chinatown is fun.
