Dr Ponits has pointed that the ability to control and direct one
’
s own feelings
,
thoughts
.
and actions is self-regulation
.
It can be as simple as a child raising his hand
when asking a question in class
,
or as complex as a child controlling his feelings when
frustrated or angry
.
While the ability to self-regulate has long been considered an essential part of a
child’s
healthy emotional development
,
self-regulation is increasingly being seen as a
good predictor of a child
’
s academic success
.
According to Dr McClelland
,
a number
of
studies
have
found
that
self-regulation
significantly
predicts
literacy
outcomes
in
children
.
In their research
,
McClelland and Ponitz found that aspects of self-regulation
not
only
predicted
literacy
outcomes
in
preschool
and
elementary
school
,
but
also
predicted the gains in literacy children made during that time
.
Good
self- regulation
skills
are
also
important
for
a
child
’
s
social
development
.
“
Self- regulation

children

in
classroom
contexts

”
McClelland
says

“

these

classmates
,
and
do
better
academically
.
They
are
also
more

to
achieve
because of these skills
.
”
The
good
news
for
parents
and
educators
is
that
easy
ways
to
help
children
develop self-regulation skills may be as close as the local playground
.
Both Ponitz and
McClelland suggest that classic games where children must follow directions and wait
to take turns may be particularly suited for the development of self-regulation
.
56
.
According to Dr Ponitz
,
self-regulation is

the ability to handle the learning environment successfully

.
C
.
the skills to pass reading
,

D
.
the short-term gain in one

I was driving home from a meeting this evening about 5 pm
,
got stuck in traffic on
Colorado Blvd
,
when suddenly my car died
.
I
was
lucky
to
find
a
gas
station
nearby
,
so
I
would
have
a
warm
place
to
wait
.
Before I could make the call
,
I saw a woman walking out of the shop
,
and it
looked
like
she
slipped
on
some
ice
and
fell
down!
So
I
got
out
to
see
if
she
was
okay
.
When I got there
,
I found out she was a young woman who looked really tired
with dark circles under her eyes
.
She dropped something as I helped her up
,
so I picked
it up to give it to her
.
It was a coin
.
At that moment
,
everything came into focus for me
:
the crying woman
,
a very old
car with three kids in the back
.
and the gas pump reading$$4
,

.
I asked her if she was
okay and if she needed help
,
but she just kept saying
,
“
I don
’
t want my kids to see me
crying
.
”
So we stood on the other side of the pump from her car
.
She said she was
driving to California and that things were very hard for her right now
.
So
,
I asked
,
“
And
you were praying?
”
That made her back away from me a little
,
but I told her I was not
a crazy person and said
,
“
God heard you
,
and he sent me
.
”
I took out my card and swiped it through the card reader on the pump so she could
fill up her car completely
.
Then I walked to the next-door McDonald
’
s and bought two
big bags of food
,
and a big cup of coffee
.
She gave the food to the kids in the car who
attacked it like wolves
,
and we stood by the pump talking a little
.
She told me it was
hard for her to feed three kids and herself
.
I gave her my gloves
,
a little hug and said a
quick prayer with her for safety on the road
.
As I was walking over to my car
,
she said
,
“
So
,
are you like an angel or something?
”
I said
,
“
Sweetie
,
at this time of the year
angels are really busy
,
so sometimes God uses ordinary people
.
”
60
.
The kids in the car attacked the food like wolves
.
It meant
.
A
.
they liked McDonald
’
s very much
B
.
they were starving for food
C
.
they had very good appetite(
胃口
)
D
.
they were very happy and excited
61
.
From the passage
,
we can infer that
.
